About
The Department of Music at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem teaches music within a liberal arts setting and welcomes students whether they're new to music or planning a career in it. Courses cover theory, history and culture, including popular, world, film and Western art music. Students can major with a liberal arts or performance concentration, or minor without an audition. Ensembles include choirs, a jazz ensemble, a wind ensemble, a symphony orchestra and a gamelan, and some are open to any student without an audition. Concerts, student recitals and guest artist performances fill a season calendar at the Scales Fine Arts Center and Brendle Recital Hall. The orchestra's concerto competition is free and open to the public.
