Cleveland County Arts Council

111 South Washington Street Shelby NC 28150

About

Founded in 1986 and chartered a year later in 1987, the Cleveland County Arts Council is a nonprofit that promotes creativity, education and community through the arts. It grew out of a grassroots push to bring local arts groups together and now serves thousands across the county from its home in Uptown Shelby, the historic post office on the square, where children and adults take classes, explore and create. Each year more than 10,000 visitors come for exhibits, performances and classes, and outreach brings cultural performances to over 13,000 students, plus summer art camp and student art competitions. The council supports 22 affiliate groups and is part of a network backed by the North Carolina Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
