About
This stadium is home to the Crawdads, who arrived in 1993 when a group of five local businessmen purchased the Gastonia Rangers and moved them to Hickory, bringing minor league baseball back after a gap that began when the Hickory Rebels played their last season in 1960. The team won approval as a South Atlantic League member on January 22nd, 1993, and its name beat out the Hounds, River Cats, Valley Cats and Woodchucks in a contest that drew over 700 entries. Owner Don Beaver wanted an unusual name tied to the kids who caught crawdads in local creeks. On Sunday home games the team wears powder blue "Sunday Blues" jerseys.
