About
The Purple Onion in Saluda was conceived in 1998 by Susan, with help from her husband Stoney Lamar, as a third place away from home and work where people could share good food, conversation and live music at the town's easy pace. In 2020 she handed it to Chambli Stuber and Emily Lamar, who carry on her work. Live music plays Thursday and Saturday nights, and there is outdoor dining. The menu draws on many cuisines with a lean toward the Mediterranean: pizzas, pastas, seafood, vegetarian and meat dishes, made with local trout and local organic produce when available. Wine, beer and locally roasted coffee round it out.
