About
Tryon Little Theater was organized in December 1947, continuing a local stage tradition that began at an Opera House in the 1890s. Its first play, Booth Tarkington's "The Trysting Place," went up on May 5, 1948. TLT helped lead the push for the Tryon Fine Arts Center, which opened in February 1969 with its production of "The Madwoman of Chaillot." It has staged comedies, dramas and musicals, partnered with the Tryon Youth Center on summer youth musicals since 1999, and runs a black box Workshop that moved in 2005 to a former auto parts store on South Trade Street.
