About
The Swain County Heritage Museum occupies downtown Bryson City's historic 1908 courthouse and shares the history of the county and the people who live there. Photos, exhibits and a film show how early settlers lived, and how the creation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Fontana Dam reshaped the land and changed lives. Highlights include a restored log cabin porch, desks from a one-room schoolhouse and an 1887 church organ, along with a kid zone with hands-on activities. The building also houses the Swain County Visitor Center, with help on hiking, waterfalls, rafting and lodging, and a shop of books and gifts about the Smokies. Admission is free, with donations welcome.
