    About

The Durham Art Guild, created in 1948, is a member-driven visual arts group and one of the oldest in North Carolina; it says it ranks among the five oldest in the country. The Durham Arts Council grew out of the Guild in 1954. Over the decades its shows have featured realists such as Ola Maie Foushee, abstract artists such as Edith London and George Bireline, and ceramicist Sally Bowen Prange, along with a wide range of styles and media. Today the Guild holds a yearly Juried Show, a show for members and exhibits of selected artists at its Truist Gallery downtown and its gallery in the Golden Belt complex. Its Art at Work program places art in local businesses, and it also runs an Artist-in-Residence program and a Creative Mentorship Program that pairs professional artists with students.
