About Hendersonville

Hendersonville is the county seat of Henderson County, in the mountains south of Asheville. It was named for Chief Justice Leonard Henderson and chartered in 1847. It is traditionally called “The City of Four Seasons.” Its preserved Main Street has restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, centered on the 1905 county courthouse, which now houses the Henderson County Heritage Museum. Other stops include the Mineral and Lapidary Museum, the Hands On! children’s museum, the Western North Carolina Air Museum and Oakdale Cemetery, whose marble angel inspired Thomas Wolfe’s Look Homeward, Angel. Hendersonville Little Theatre was established in 1966 and the yearly North Carolina Apple Festival is the city’s largest street festival. Source: Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)

      Teacher’s remarks

The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
