About
The Bailey Building is part of the Rush Wray Museum Complex run by the Yancey History Association. Donated to the association in 2005, it holds a genealogy library, archives, meeting space and rotating exhibits, including a recent show called Appalachian Patriots and the Revolutionary War. Its lower level is wheelchair accessible. The association formed in 1979 and also operates the McElroy House, dedicated as the Rush Wray Museum and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, plus a 1920s gas station that serves as a visitor center. Its mission is to preserve and share the culture, history and heritage of Yancey County using archival collections, genealogical records and oral and written histories.
