    About

The Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival, founded in 1982 as the Highlands Chamber Music Festival, presents a five-week summer season of chamber music in the Western Carolina mountains. Double bassist Lucas Drew started it after a pilot series of concerts in 1976, and it took its current name in 2015. It now ranks among the oldest summer chamber music festivals in the country, modeled on the Marlboro Music Festival and the varied programs of the chamber music society at Lincoln Center. Highlands concerts take place at the Martin-Lipscomb Performing Arts Center, a former church the festival bought and gave to the town in 1999, and the Cashiers series has played at the Albert-Carlton Cashiers Community Library. The season includes "Bach at Buck's," informal solo and duo string music in a Cashiers coffee house, and lectures with the Center For Life Enrichment. William Ransom of Emory University became Artistic Director in 2000.
