About

The Historic Nissen House in Lewisville is the George Elias Nissen House, long dated to about 1876, though state preservation experts think it may be older. In 2008, with the house facing demolition, the Lewisville Historical Society raised money and moved it in 2009 to a nearby town-owned site, then restored it for community use. Historic Nissen House, Inc. took over ownership in May 2024. The house blends Greek Revival and Italianate styles with rural simplicity, including three large front gables, and is among the few remaining examples of its design in the region. Its first floor is restored and open to the public. The house offers tours, educational programs, community gatherings, rentals and art exhibitions about the stories that shaped Lewisville.
