About Kernersville

Kernersville traces back to Caleb Story, who settled the site in 1756. Around 1770 William Dobson bought it, and it became known as Dobson’s Crossroads, where George Washington ate breakfast at Dobson’s tavern in 1791. In 1817 Joseph Kerner purchased the property and kept the inn going, and the town took his name when it was incorporated in 1873 soon after the railroad came. It lies mostly in Forsyth County with a small edge in Guilford County. Korner’s Folly was finished in 1880 and has 22 rooms on seven levels and a private theatre from 1896. The town also offers the Kernersville Museum, the Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden, the 1873 train depot and the yearly Honeybee Festival. Source: Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)

Teacher’s remarks

The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
