About this event

This hands-on workshop teaches Western style mould and deckle papermaking basics using several pulps. Students learn how to turn recycled and commercial fibers into pulp, which tools are needed, and how to pull, press and dry sheets. The day opens with a talk and a look at handmade paper samples, then moves to the vats to make paper together, and everyone takes home a stack of sample sheets. No experience is needed. Teaching artist Alyssa Sacora works in papermaking, book arts, basketry and weaving, mostly with local and repurposed natural materials, and keeps a large garden in Fairview, North Carolina.
