About this event

Ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro, called the “Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele,” gives a school-day performance of about 60 minutes recommended for Grades K-12, with a study guide available. His playing mixes traditional Hawaiian music with blues, folk, jazz, classical and rock. Born in Honolulu, he started at age four and became widely known after his take on George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went viral. He has worked with Yo-Yo Ma, Mick Fleetwood, Bette Midler, Ziggy Marley and Jimmy Buffett, played the Sydney Opera House, the Hollywood Bowl and the Kennedy Center, and often performs at schools to support music education. Admission is $5/person, with separate registration for groups of 25+ and smaller groups. He also plays an evening concert at the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country on November 3 at 7pm.
