About

Hook & Line celebrates the music of the extended Thompson family from Alamance and Orange Counties, above all the cousins Joe Thompson (1918-2012) and Odell Thompson (1911-1994). Its full name is the Thompson Music & Arts Heritage Festival. The two cousins learned string band music from their fathers and uncles and later earned national and international acclaim, and their names are linked with reviving African-American string band music. The festival takes place in Mebane and fills a weekend with music, dance and remembrance, with free events and music in the community park. Two festival partners, Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson, helped found the Carolina Chocolate Drops. It is organized jointly by the City of Mebane, its historical museum, public library and downtown development corporation, along with Thompson and Evans relatives and area musicians.
