About

Ocrafolk Festival is a grassroots weekend festival on Ocracoke Island, held in June, that gathers musicians, storytellers, artisans and local characters for a weekend of performances. It was started in 2000 by Gary Mitchell and David Tweedie of the touring band Molasses Creek, and it is now produced by Ocracoke Alive, a nonprofit that supports cultural, artistic, educational and environmental activities on the island. Ticket sales help fund Ocracoke Alive's year-round student and community programs. The festival includes a juried artisan market, and young people up to age 17 can get a free weekend pass at the box office. Admission is general admission with a wristband covering audience areas all weekend. Ocracoke Alive also runs other community events such as a heritage festival and Deepwater Theater.
