About
The Asheville Chamber Music Series has presented chamber ensembles from around the world since 1952, when ten music lovers joined Joe Vandewart, who had fled Nazi Germany, to found it. The Alberni Trio played the first concert that October, and groups such as the Budapest, Emerson, Juilliard and Amadeus Quartets have since appeared. One concert each season honors Vandewart. Since 2009 an educational outreach program, run with the Opal String Quartet, has brought music instruction into public schools. Since 2015 it has also presented concerts during the biennial Amadeus Festival of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, and its Rising Stars Series at the Asheville Art Museum features emerging North Carolina musicians. It has also tried new venues such as The Grey Eagle Music Hall and welcomes new repertoire.
