Charlotte Is Creative (CIC) was founded in 2015 by Matt Olin and Tim Miner, lifelong friends who grew up in Charlotte and wanted it to become the most welcoming city in the country for artists, makers and creative entrepreneurs. CIC began with CreativeMornings / Charlotte, a free breakfast lecture series held monthly. The November 2015 debut drew nearly 200 people, and the series has since held over 120 gatherings. CIC went on to give out hundreds of small H.U.G. grants, stage civic events such as Charlotte Reciprocity Circle and Queen City Quiz Show, and run training like the Creative Entrepreneurs Initiative. It connects creatives across Mecklenburg County with tools, funding and relationships to help them build lasting careers.
