About
Durham Arts Council, DAC, leads and promotes the arts in Durham, working for excellence in and access to creating, experiencing and supporting art for everyone in the community. It began in 1954 as Allied Arts and took the name Durham Arts Council in 1975, becoming what is now the nation's second oldest arts council. Three years later it moved into the historic former Central High School and City Hall, built in 1906 in downtown Durham, which became its long-term home after a three-year renovation. DAC is committed to diversity, equity, access and inclusion across its programs, services and audiences.
