    About

Southport's NC 4th of July Festival traces its roots to 1795, when ships in the harbor fired salutes all day to mark independence. Today's multi-day festival took shape in the 1960s with a raffle, an arts festival and the parade, and was incorporated in 1972. Over 100 handmade arts and crafts vendors fill Franklin Square Park, the Waterfront Stage keeps people dancing, and children enjoy sack races, face painting and crafts. A parade through downtown Southport on the Fourth features floats, marching bands and antique cars, and the night ends with fireworks over the Cape Fear River. Oak Island became an added venue in 2021.
