About
Nuv Yug Cultural Organization works to raise awareness of the cultural arts of India among people in Raleigh and nearby communities. Its best-known program is Nuv Yug India Fest, held since 2003 with backing from the City of Raleigh Arts Commission and other groups and individuals. The festival draws more than 1,500 performers, who stage close to 150 dance and music pieces over a weekend. Craft sellers from New York, Chicago and Florida join local vendors to show traditional work from India, and area restaurants serve Indian dishes. The volunteer board includes dancers, a Bharatanatyam choreographer and teacher, and a member who has acted, directed and written plays and writes Hindi poetry. The group also aims to help the Indian American community keep close ties to its roots.
