About
Open Hearts Art Center is a nonprofit art studio and gallery, fully equipped, in downtown Asheville, NC, serving adults with disabilities. Professional artists and experienced caregivers encourage each artist to draw on their own story for inspiration, in a safe, supportive setting where friendships form and laughter and creativity go together. The center believes ability is not defined by diagnosis and that finding a voice through art builds confidence and independence. It opened on June 1, 2005, founded by three women who wanted to combine a love of art with making a difference, and it now works from Coxe Avenue in the South Slope area. In 2025 it celebrated 20 years, and its artists' work has reached the cover of Mountain Xpress.
