About
United Arts, the official arts agency for Wake County, works to build a better county by supporting and advocating for the arts. For more than 50 years it has expanded cultural offerings through grants to artists, arts organizations and towns, and through education programs for Wake County students. Its roots go back to the Raleigh Cultural Center, formed in 1962 and later called the Wake County Arts Council, which joined with the Capital Area Arts Foundation in 1990. Over the years it has brought teaching artists into schools, helped smaller towns with cultural plans, launched the Wake Murals program and started master classes for high school arts students. In September 2025, with Wake County government, it completed Cultivating Creativity, the county's first long-range cultural plan, which includes grants, a countywide mural project and arts programs for schools, senior centers and other shared spaces.
