About
The Reeves Theater in Elkin calls itself a home for music in the foothills. The Art Deco movie house opened in 1941, later became the Elk Twin cinema, and then sat empty for years before it was renovated and reopened; the story is told in the documentary Reeves: A Home for Music. Today it hosts monthly recurring shows, including The Reeves House Band led by keyboardist Tommy Jackson and The Martha Bassett Show, which welcomes national, regional and local guests. A free bar concert series covers old-time and bluegrass jams, classical, rock and songwriters. Every Wednesday brings free music nights such as an open mic, Band Night, karaoke and a songwriter night. The 252-seat theater and its marquee can be rented.
