About
The Murphy Art Center, known as The MAC, is the home of the Valley River Arts Guild, a nonprofit on the square in downtown Murphy. Its shop and gallery carry work by makers across many media: woodworking, pottery, paintings, jewelry, stained and fused glass, quilts, baskets, mosaics, photography and more. The guild also runs the Murphy Art Xplosion, an outdoor art gallery with themed shows and open calls for artists, plus events such as a quilt and fiber show. Classes are a big part of the center, with hands-on sessions for adults and teens in basket weaving, crochet and fiber crafts, and youth classes for children from preschool age up, supported by a Kids Art Club scholarship fund.
