About

Parkway Playhouse is a historic theatre in Burnsville, founded in 1947 by drama professor Dr. William Raymond Taylor of Woman's College of Greensboro (now UNCG). It once ran as a summer stock venue and as a sponsored arm of the drama programs at UNCG and at the University of Miami, and became an independent theatre company in the 1990s. Set in the Appalachian Mountains, it still stages mainstage productions each summer, such as the musicals Into the Woods and Elf The Musical JR, and offers theatre education all year. As a teaching theatre, Parkway Playhouse trains young and aspiring theatre professionals and serves as a gathering place for the community, using the performing arts to bring neighbors together and offer fresh ways of seeing the world.
